SEMSAR is a not-for-profit Christian based organization specializing in search and rescue, law enforcement/security operations, and emergency medical services. The ministry was originally conceptualized in 1986 on the campus of LeTourneau University as SLC (Samaritans Loving Christ) and has been through several incarnations before becoming SEMSAR in 1997. Our command staff is comprised of individuals with experience at all levels of public safety in Emergency Medicine, Fire/Rescue, Law Enforcement, Disaster Operations, SWAT, Hazardous Materials, Search and Rescue, and the Allied Health Professions (Doctors, Nurses, etc.) Our volunteers come from all walks of life and undergo intensive training prior to participating in actual law enforcement, medical, and rescue operations. We also have a strong ministerial staff for pastoral counseling and support, critical incident stress debriefing, and grief management.

Our ministry provides quality training in numerous disciplines, and can provide instructors or subject matter experts on subjects as diverse as executive protection and anti-terrorism, to abduction prevention and child safety, to human trafficking and moden slavery. We also teach familiarization courses on world religions (such as Islam), provide training to missions teams operating in third world countries, community disaster response, and numerous medical courses.

SEMSAR is loosely based on a military-style command structure and personnel observe several aspects of standard military etiquette. Search and Rescue, Disaster Response, or Law Enforcement Operations can easily be life or death situations, and this particular structure serves us well in enforcing discipline and maintaining order in stressful environments. This structure also enhances camaraderie and reinforces to the individual member that he/she belongs to something greater than themselves. An organization founded on the importance of life itself in a world desperate for meaning.
